Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (17 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Compilation of moments from a gala performance jointly presented by the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris and American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York City, on July 8, 1986. The tape begins with a brief press conference given by Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and First Lady Nancy Reagan, the honorary co-chairman of the evening. Reagan is then seen taking her seat in the theater. At ca. 5 min. into the tape, soprano Martina Arroyo sings the Marseillaise and the Star Spangled Banner. The master of ceremonies, Gene Kelly, is briefly shown on stage. The recording then moves outside the opera house to an interview by a WCBS-TV reporter with Benjamin Vaccaro (?), who discusses the significance of the occasion. At ca. 11 min. the recording returns to the performance, where Leslie Caron waltzes with a male ensemble from American Ballet Theatre, and subsequently with Nureyev and Baryshnikov, to a musical medley including the theme song from her film Lili. At 14 min. the recording switches to the Paris Opéra's Palais Garnier, where journalist Yves Morroussi interviews (in French) André Larquié, president of the Theatre National de l'Opera de Paris, and Marina de Brantes of the Association pour le Rayonnement de l'Opera de Paris.
