Summary
  1. Profile of Whoopi Goldberg, with emphasis on her versatility in a multifaceted career as a performer on stage, screen, and television, as well as author and producer. Also examined are her offstage role as political activist, and her outspoken, often controversial persona both in public and private life. The program traces her career from her childhood in New York City, her struggles as welfare mom and fledgling actor, her film debut in The color purple, and subsequent triumphs in Ghost and Sister act (all seen in film clips), to her current activities as a television producer.
