Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (32 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Rehearsals for the dance portions of a number titled "Mr. Monotony" in the musical retrospective Jerome Robbins' Broadway ; the title was given simply as "Monotony" at a tryout performance (see *MGZIA 4-6017 JRC [Jerome Robbins' Broadway]). The number was staged first for Miss Liberty (1949), then for Call me madam (1950), but cut from both musicals before they reached Broadway. It received its Broadway premiere as part of Jerome Robbins' Broadway in February 1989. The first segment of this tape shows a group of three men and two women dancing to this music; subsequent rehearsals are danced by two men and a woman, as in the completed number. The number depicts a love triangle between two men (who respectively mime playing a trombone and a clarinet) and a woman. Jerome Robbins occasionally appears on camera to work with the dancers, and his voice is heard from off-camera. A complete run-through of the trio, recorded on July 19, 1988, begins at ca. 27 min. into the tape.
