Summary
As the recording begins, Rudolf Nureyev is seen in a studio of the Kirov Ballet, where a class taught by Ninel Kurgapkina is already in progress. He does not actually take part in the class. At ca. 9 min. into the tape, he and Kurgapkina work with a young ballerina, probably Zhanna Ayupova, on excerpts from her Act I solo from La sylphide, which Nureyev danced with the Kirov Ballet in the course of this visit. The camera often focuses on his face, and the dance movements are not always visible. Starting at ca. 19 min. into the tape, the camera follows Nureyev on a nostalgic trip through the Leningrad Choreographic Institute, including a small theater where, he states, he prepared all his roles. At ca. 28 min., he, his sister Rashida, and others visit his first ballet teacher, Anna Udeltsova. Much of the footage on this tape parallels the recording made for CBS-TV's Sunday morning show (see *MGZIA 4-4057 RNC Sunday morning. Dancing home. Unedited footage). This tape also contains ca. 5 min. of apparently unrelated footage showing a scene from a modern opera.
