  • Track 1: 33 min. Broadcast Feb. 20, 1983 by radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series The sound of dance. Contains advertisements. Host John Gruen interviews Clive Barnes, who discusses his book about Rudolf Nureyev. Barnes discusses his first meeting with Nureyev shortly after his defection at his first television interview in 1962; Nureyev's involvement in the writing of the book; the quality of Nureyev's dancing and artistry at present time compared to the height of his career; the impact of Nureyev's fame and career on the dance field; his personality; Nureyev and the press; the possibility of another ballet dancer having the same popularity; and the possibility of Nureyev directing the Royal Ballet.

The broadcast includes an account of Nureyev's defection with selections from historical tape recordings, discussion with Mario Bois, and Nureyev's subsequent relations with Russia.
