- 1 videocassette (44 min.) : si., b&w NTSC; 1/2 in. (VHS)
- Summary
- Compilation of travel and dance footage principally of the Caribbean island of Martinique (first 39 min.), followed by dance footage filmed in Jamaica. The footage of Martinique begins with views of its landscape and people, its capital city of Fort de France, and the towns of Ste.-Pierre and La Vauclin. A funeral procession is the focal point of one segment. The dance footage begins at ca. 19 min. into the tape and includes scenes of combat dances, among them the ag'ya that inspired Katherine Dunham's choreographic work of the same name, as well as other dances by solo performers (men, women, and children) and couples, including the biguine or béguine. The dance footage from Jamaica, filmed in its capital, Kingston, begins at ca. 40 min. into the tape, and includes scenes from a public dance-hall and a dance called the shay-shay.
