Summary

Documentary featuring a selection of Canadian performing artists, both established and emerging. In vignettes interspersed with Nancy White's songs on the plight of the Canadian performer, the artists are seen in rehearsal, performance, and interviews. The dance world is represented by Annette av Paul, Brian Macdonald, Josée Ledoux, and members of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, as well as modern dance soloist Margie Gillis. Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is ultimately seen in a ballet [Suite Carignan?] by Macdonald to music by fiddler Jean Carignan ; Gillis is seen in Waltzing Matilda. Jean-Claude Germain discusses his creation Sarah Menard, which is performed by Nicole Leblanc. Mime performances are presented by Theatre Beyond Words and Mime Omnibus. The NDWT Company is seen on tour in northern Ontario ; Clare Schapiro organizes a performance by and about children in Montréal. Eric Peterson and John Gray are seen in the Broadway premiere of their play Billy Bishop goes to war ; Cleménce Desrochers presents a satirical monologue.
