Summary
  1. Entrant in the Dance on Camera Festival 2002. Profiles of Lucette Aldous, Marilyn Rowe, and Marilyn Jones, prima ballerinas of the Australian Ballet in the 1970s. In their own words, they recall the development of their careers, the male dancers who partnered them, and some of their major roles. They discuss dancers' concerns such as gaining technique and artistry, confronting aging, dealing with stagefright, facing the end of their performing careers, passing along their knowledge to younger dancers. Film clips depict each ballerina in action: Aldous in Don Quixote, Swan lake, Fool on the hill, Carmen, and The sleeping beauty ; Jones in Ballet imperial, La fille mal gardée, Lady and the fool, Jazz spectrum, and The dying swan ; Rowe in Don Quixote, La fille mal gardée, Romeo and Juliet, The merry widow, Swan lake, and Anna Karenina. Rudolf Nureyev's film version of Don Quixote (1972), made with the Australian Ballet, occupies a prominent place in the discussion. Aldous, who danced Kitri, is seen rehearsing for the film with Nureyev, and she and Rowe (who danced the Street dancer/Queen of the dryads) are seen in clips from the film itself.
