Description
  1. 1 streaming video file (47 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences.
Summary
  1. Exploration of flamenco dance and music, focusing on Omayra Amaya and her Boston-based dance company Amaya, Flamenco Sin Limites. Amaya and the other interviewees discuss the salient qualities of flamenco: its passion, expressiveness, contemporaneity and individuality. Amaya describes the influence of her great-aunt, Carmen Amaya, who is seen in film clips from Maria De La O (1936), Follow the boys (1944), and Los Tarantos (1965). Omayra Amaya is portrayed in her multiple roles as performer, choreographer, company director, and teacher. The many dance excerpts, recorded in class, rehearsal, and performance and at social events, demonstrate her stated intention of expanding flamenco's boundaries while maintaining a respect for tradition.
