Summary

1. Recording begins with announcements and introduction of the second half of the listening room program for Feb. 12, 1974.) Maurice Béjart and Antony Tudor discuss their current projects at the time of the recording, Béjart's work Stimmung, and present contrasting arguments about improvisation in ballet. William Como discusses the selection of the 19th annual Dance magazine award recipients including Béjart, Tudor and Gerald Arpino. An excerpt of Karlheinz Stockhausen's music for Béjart's work Stimmung is played and they discuss the use of music for ballet. Short news break. They discuss Tudor's work Pillar of Fire and an excerpt of Arnold Schönberg's Verklärte Nacht is played. Short news break. They discuss Béjart's work Marteau sans maître and an excerpt of Pierre Boulez's music is played. They discuss Tudor's work Undertow and an excerpt of William Schuman's music is played; music continues on side 2. Closing remarks and future plans are discussed. The recording ends with a substantial news report.
