  1. 1 videocassette (62 min.) : sd., col. PAL; 1/2 in. (VHS)
Summary
  1. In footage recorded in an interview and at a lecture-demonstration with his dance company, British choreographer Richard Alston discusses some of the elements that shape his work: his interest in structure and complexity ; his use of music and the visual arts as sources of inspiration ; his choreographic process ; his combination of complexity and clarity in the same work ; his deployment of the dancer's torso and back. He analyzes examples from four selected works, which are danced in costume onstage and in rehearsal clothes at the lecture-demonstration. In brief statements, members of his company discuss their perceptions of his choreography and working methods. Following the program (ca. 51 min.) are 11 min. of performance excerpts from three works: Rumours, visions ; Light flooding into darkened rooms ; and Brisk singing.
