- Summary
- Part 1 (25 min.): Leslie Edwards discusses the Royal Ballet Choreographic Group and his career with Royal Ballet. Monica Mason discusses dancing Sleeping beauty and Sir Frederick Ashton's infuluence on the English ballet. Edwards recounts the opening of Royal Ballet's Sleeping beauty in New York, 1949, and the subsequent reception of Cinderella in London. Mason discusses audience enthusiasm and the influence of musical theater on her career. Edwards and Mason compare the real temperaments of dancers to characterizations in the motion picture, The red shoes.
- Part 2 (25 min.): Monica Mason discusses her versatility as a dancer. Edwards explains the use and teaching of mime techniques in Sadler's Wells Ballet; his studies with Olga Preobajenska in Paris 1937. They discuss the influence of Dame Ninette de Valois; Margot Fonteyn's transition as principal dancer of Alicia Markova's roles; their extra work outside the ballet; Fonteyn's career with Sadler's Wells Ballet and her influence on the company; Edwards contrasts Kenneth MacMillan's and Ashton's choreographic styles; Mason's position as repetiteur for MacMillan; and their hopes for the future.
