Summary
Dancers Anne McLeod and Michael Ballard discuss their beginnings as dancers and their introduction to the work of Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis; the start of their careers with Nikolais Dance Theatre; Louis and Nikolais' choreographic methods; relationships of the dancers within the company; the philosophy of Nikolais' and Louis' work. Ballard discusses his book, Conversations with a Dancer, with Kitty Cunningham. They discuss the importance of thought and intelligence to dance performance; the support of their families for their dance careers; their opinions of and preferences for certain dance styles; their hopes for the future.
