Summary
Profile of Rudolf Nureyev, recorded as a promotional video commissioned by Christie's in connection with two auctions of Nureyev's collections, held in New York in January 1995 and in London in November 1995. Nureyev's many facets, onstage and off, are illustrated through views of his art collections, described by Lord Hindlip of Christie's ; through still photographs by Lord Snowdon (Antony Armstrong-Jones) ; and through the remembrances of his contemporaries, among them dancers Margot Fonteyn, Merle Park, and Anthony Dowell. He is seen performing excerpts from Le corsaire pas de deux, The sleeping beauty, Swine lake (with Miss Piggy of The muppet show), Frederick Ashton's Marguerite and Armand (with Margot Fonteyn), and his Hollywood version of Cinderella, and rehearsing with Merle Park in his staging of The nutcracker.
