Unedited footage documenting Rudolf Nureyev's visit to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese government to stage his full-length production of Don Quixote for the Central Ballet of China. He was accompanied by his longtime friend Maude Gosling (also known as Maude Lloyd). At the beginning of this tape, he is welcomed at a reception by Madame Dai Ai-Lian on behalf of the company's director, Li Chengxiang. He is then seen watching and working with dancers in the studio on various excerpts from Don Quixote. After ca. 12 min. depicting Nureyev and his party sightseeing (including a visit to the Great Wall of China), Nureyev is seen rehearsing the company onstage. This is followed by an excerpt of Don Quixote recorded in a run-through onstage in practice clothes, from the coda of the grand pas de deux to the end of Act III. Another recording of this visit, *MGZIA 4-4072 RNC, begins with scenes of a different rehearsal, then duplicates the sightseeing and run-through footage on this tape.
