- Summary
- "Industrial nations' needs for raw materials, commercial markets, and naval refueling stations sped up the race to colonize Africa and Asia. This program explores the socioeconomic impact and consequences of colonial interests in places such as India, the Belgian Congo, and Java. The Boxer Rebellion and Gandhi's passive resistance campaign define the spectrum of colonial nationalism. Emigration, expulsion, and forced resettlement of the poor and oppressed are also examined, as Russian Jews fled to the U.S., Chinese migrated to Brazil, Zionists flocked to Palestine, and millions of others traveled to lands of hope--or hopelessness" -- Container.
