Summary
In his first American television interview, Rudolf Nureyev responds to Dick Cavett's questions on a variety of subjects. Among the topics are: his dance training and family in Russia ; a comparison of career longevity in male and female dancers ; his defection ; his father's opposition to his dancing. Nureyev is seen dancing in two excerpts from the 1972 film of Don Quixote, which he directed and choreographed for the Australian Ballet. This interview (including commercials) runs for the first 30 min. of the tape. It is followed by interviews with author Gore Vidal and Dr. John McLaughlin, a special assistant to the President.
