Contents
  • David Wall (ca. 37 min.) / Wall, who was a student when Nureyev arrived at the Royal Ballet, describes his first impressions of him in ballet class. He credits him as a catalyst for the new prominence of the male dancer, but points out that his arrival coincided with the rise of several notable male dancers (e.g., David Blair, Christopher Gable) in the company. Wall also recalls the experience of working with him on his staging of Raymonda, Act III.
  • Peter Wright (ca. 49 min.) / Wright, who worked with Nureyev as a balletmaster and choreographer, recalls him in company class, rehearsal, and performance. Discussing male dancers of the time, he explains how Nureyev differed from British dancers, and how other dancers benefited from his example. He describes the qualities that made him stand out as a performer although other dancers excelled him in classical purity. He gives a detailed description of Nureyev's interpretation of Albrecht in Wright's own version of Giselle, and praises his acting ability, especially in comedic roles.
