  2. The performance is preceded by a brief discussion of the production; the intermission feature between acts 2 & 3 includes historical notes illustrated with archival photos.
  3. The opera is followed by the first 13 minutes of an episode (entitled "Everest") from the BBC-TV program "The world about us." Introduced by Duncan Carse, this episode is devoted to the 1922 British expedition to Mt. Everest. It is illustrated with archival photos and film footage by Capt. John Noel, the official expedition cinematographer, and the narrative is drawn from accounts of the expedition written by its leader, Brigadier General C.G. Bruce.
