- Summary
- Actress Bethel Leslie conducts a tribute to playwright Clifford Odets in which she reads a number of his letters, including several concerning his play The country girl. Ms. Leslie also reads a short story he wrote but never published, an obituary essay about Mr. Odets written by critic Brooks Atkinson, and a response to the essay by playwright Robert Anderson in which the status of playwrights in contemporary theater, and the profession's attitude towards them, is criticized. Tape incomplete: Ms. Leslie's reminiscences of working in television in the early 1960's with Clifford Odets on The Richard Boone Show, whose scripts he supervised, were not recorded in their entirety.
