Summary
Documentary on the powwow, told in the words of Native Americans from various tribes. They describe the origins, significance and symbolism of the powwow's various components and accoutrements (the grand entry, drumming and songs, regalia, dances). Related topics include traditional views on the role of the warrior, generosity and giving, children, sobriety, and marriage, as well as a broader examination of the place of Native Americans and their culture in contemporary American society. The dances depicted and described are the men's traditional dance, women's traditional dance, grass dance, jingle dress dance, fancy shawl dance, and men's fancy dance.
