Summary
Documentary on a young man's preparations to participate in a powwow. The program focuses on an Ojibwe man, Richard LaFernier, who is heard in voiceover as the camera records his actions: setting up camp, preparing his regalia, blowing smoke to the four directions in an abbreviated form of the traditional pipe ceremony, painting his face and dressing for the powwow. In the first segment, filmed in 1992, he is seen alone ; in the second, filmed in 1993, he is assisted by his wife, and continues his explanation of the significance and symbolism of the various components of his regalia and face-painting. The second segment also shows him singing and drumming with a group, and dancing in the grand entry.
