Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (62 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Survey of contemporary dance in Germany, focusing on Tanztheater and related dance-theater forms such as Johann Kresnik's "choreographic theater." Interviews with prominent choreographers and excerpts from their works contribute to a vivid picture of current thinking and stage practice. Dance critic Jochen Schmidt gives his assessment of the contemporary scene. Also described are influential dancer-choreographers of the past, among them Valeska Gert, Mary Wigman, and Dore Hoyer. The late Kurt Jooss, seen in an interview recorded in 1976, recalls his mentor Rudolf Laban ; his daughter Anna Markard, in turn, contrasts her father's concept of Tanztheater to choreographic works seen today.
