Discussion of the Paris Opéra Ballet as dance company, institution and building (Palais Garnier) ; topics include the pros and cons of raked stages ; the achievements of Serge Lifar and Rudolf Nureyev as directors of the company ; the Paris Opéra Ballet School under the leadership of Claude Bessy ; present-day conditions for the company's dancers.
