Description
  1. 2 videocassettes (138 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences NTSC; 1/2 in. (VHS)
Summary
  1. In a quest inspired by Sir Anton Dolin's book Olga Spessivtseva: the sleeping ballerina (first published in 1966), the narrator of the film revisits sites significant to Spessivtseva in present-day New York, London, Paris, and Leningrad, as well as the nursing home in Nyack, N.Y., where Spessivtseva spent her final years. Interviews (some pre-recorded) include the reminiscences of some of Spessivtseva's contemporaries. Spessivtseva herself is seen in her later years in an interview with Dolin and in footage from Ludovic Kennedy's film The sleeping ballerina (1959). Except for a very brief glimpse of the end of Act I of Giselle at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, there are no dance sequences in this film. The film concludes with a visit to Spessivtseva's grave.
