Printer's imprint at foot of p. [1] of covers, pts. 10-19/20; publisher's and general advertisements on p. [2-4] of covers. "The Nickleby advertiser" and other publisher's and general advertisements inserted in each part; for detailed description, cf. Hatton & Cleaver.
- Title on covers of parts: The life and adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, containing a faithful account of the fortunes, misfortunes, uprisings, downfallings, and complete career of the Nickleby family. Edited by Boz. With illustrations by Phiz.
- First issue has two uncorrected errata: "visiter" for "sister" on p. 123, line 17, and "latter" for "letter" on p. 160, line 6 from bottom.
- Illustrations: 39 prints : etching ; full-page. Drawn and etched by H.K. Browne. Four or 7 were etched in duplicate, 18 or 21 in triplicate and 14 in quadruplicate (Johannsen believes the third versions of plates 5-7 are actually retouched states of the second). -- 1 print : steel engraving ; full-page. Port. of the author, engraved by D.F. Finden, after a painting by D. Maclise. Engraved in duplicate. -- Full-page wood engraving on front cover, engraved by E. Landells after Browne.
