Summary
Choreographer Roland Petit and ballerina Zizi Jeanmaire recall the high points of their careers, together and apart. They revisit, in person or memory, the Paris Opéra, where they met when very young; London, the site of their first great triumph, the Ballets de Paris's production of Carmen; and Hollywood, where they worked in films. They remember longtime friends and associates, such as Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev and Yves Saint Laurent. A montage illustrates the glamour and variety of the productions that Petit created for Jeanmaire at the Casino de Paris. Petit recalls his accomplishments in the company and school of the Ballet National de Marseille, including a version of Swan lake with male swans. Jeanmaire, seen with her personal trainer, talks about dealing with aging. Passing on a signature role, she coaches Altynai Asylmuratova in Carmen. She and Petit are both seen in performances in the 1980s and 90s.
