• "Soon after the publication of the First Part of this works, in February 1792 ... it became impossible for me to finish the Second Part so soon as I intended. I left England in November last; and ... I left this chapter in the hands of the bookseller desiring him to punish it by itself. But the violent attacts of the liberty of the press in that country ... induced him to supress the publication of this ... which I now offer, without any alteration, to the English Press in Paris,"--Advertisement signed and dated: Joel Barlow.
