- Summary
- Captures the people, places, and often humorous incidents behind the making of Spike Lee's feature film "Do the right thing", during ten weeks in the summer of 1988 in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Independent filmmaker St. Clair Bourne filmed the neighborhood before the arrival and after the departure of the feature film crew, presenting an insightful look behind the camera both on and off the set in the largely Black and Hispanic neighborhood. He captures Spike Lee's working style, the actual filming of several dramatic scenes, and the negotiations involved in getting community cooperation for the production. An appearance by Melvin Van Peebles provides a special commentary on independent Black filmmaking.
