Note
  • A periodical founded by Lord Byron, Leigh Hunt and Percy Bysshe Shelley, who (with William Hazlitt) were the principal contributors.
  • Title page for number 1 also bears statement "Volume the first," the one for number 3 "Volume the second." Numbers 2 and 4 have no title-page.
  • "To the wrappers of parts II, III, and IV the words 'Reynell, Printers, Broad-St., Golden-Sq.' were added at foot within frame." cf. Wise.
  • Error in paging: "Pages 287-302 of the second volume are misnumbered 187-202. In later copies of the book a one-line Erratum was added at the foot of the Contents page to part 3." cf. Wise.
  • According to F.L. Randolph, The Liberal was issued in three issues or variants: "Of these three variants, 1 and 2 were issued in four parts and the third in two volumes. The third variant was made up by adding new prefatory material to sheets of the first or second variants, and binding up the original four parts into two volumes." The third variant, sometimes referred to as the second edition, is the only variant which contains the "Preface to the Vision of Judgment."
