Paunceforte: ink inscription to front cover reads in full: "R. Paunceforte Esq with R. B.'s best regards" (MISC 4582a); number IV presentation copy from Robert Browning to R. H. Horne: ink inscription reads in full: R. H. Horne Esq with R. B.'s very grateful regards" (MISC 4582b); number VIII presentation copy from Robert Browning to R. Paunceforte: ink inscription to front cover reads in full: "R. Paunceforte Esq with R. B.'s kind regards" (MISC 4582c). -- Numbers I and III have the ink signature of J. W. Pforz copy 2: Original parts rebound in 19th century full olive levant morocco by Riviere & Son, upper and lower covers stamped in gilt with triple rule, cover edges stamped in gilt with double rule, elaborate inner dentelle border consisting of flowers, rules, and semi-circles stamped in gilt; spine in six elaborate floral gilt compartments, with title "Bells / And / Pome- / Granates / Robert / Browning;" red endpapers, all edges gilt. -- With the bookplate of Winston H. Hagen, acquired by him March 1906. --Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer at the Hagen sale, Anderson Galleries, May 13, 1918, lot 99.
