Biography
Playwright. Lonnie Carter was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Marquette University, 1964, 1966; and an M.F.A. from Yale University, 1969. His "Smokey links" and "Cream cheese" have been performed at the American Place Theater in New York. Carter was a teacher of playwriting at Yale University School of Drama, 1974-1975; New York University Dramatic Writing Program, 1979; Marquette University, Rockland Community College; and University of Connecticut. Carter was the recipient of the Molly Kazan Award for best original play, Yale Drama School, 1967, for "Another quiet evening at home"; a Guggenheim Fellow in 1972; and a CBS Fellowship in Creative Writing, 1974. He also received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, 1974, and from P.E.N., 1978
