Playwright, novelist and musician. Edgar White was born in Montserrat, British West Indies and came to the United States in 1952. He attended City College of the City University of New York, 1964-65; New York University, B.A., 1968; he attended also Yale University School of Drama, where he was also playwright-in-residence, 1971-73. White is the author of more than a dozen plays, several of which have been produced Off-Broadway. He has worked with the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater and the Cincinnati Playhouse in Ohio; he was the artistic director of the acting company, Yardbird Players Co., 1974-77. He is member of the Black Theatre Alliance and Authors Guild. His awards and honors include O'Neill playwright award; grants from Rockefeller Foundation, 1974, New York State Council on the Arts, 1975, Creative Artists Public Service, and National Endowment for the Arts.
