Summary
Tribute to Patricia Wilde upon her retirement after 15 years as artistic director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Wilde herself looks back upon her career as a dancer with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the New York City Ballet, noting especially her association with George Balanchine, who created many works for her. Archival footage depicts her in various roles, including the lead Mirliton in Balanchine's Nutcracker, and the principal ballerina in his Square dance. Her associates Bruce Wells, balletmaster and resident choreographer of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre; David Holladay, director of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School; and principal dancers Willy Shives and Laura Desiree contribute their assessments of her achievements as teacher and artistic director, their words supported by performance excerpts of the company's recent successes, including Wells's Romeo and Juliet, and Lisa de Ribère's The mighty Casey.
