- Summary
- Documentary, much of it filmed on location in India, exploring the many facets of the Hindu deity Shiva, as manifested through myth, literature, temple architecture, sculpture, religious practice, and cosmology. Throughout the program, dances by Kuchipudi dancers Raja Reddy and Radha Reddy depict the god and his consort Parvati in their different aspects. Raja Reddy also demonstrates some of the karanas (combinations of hand gestures, footsteps, and body movements) of Indian classical dance, closely associated with Shiva in his aspect of lord of the dance. Dr. Partha Ghose draws analogies between Mandelbrot's theories of fractal geometry and the coexistence of order and chaos expressed in the cosmic dance of Shiva.
