Biography
Playwright, director, and conductor of theatrical workshops, Harris was born in Valhalla, NY. Neil Harris Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, for two years (1957-1959). A self-taught playwright, he established and directed a number of drama/writers workshops in New York during the 1970s: the Dickie Austin Theater Workshop in New Rochelle, the Black Osmosis Drama-Writers Workshop in Pelham, and the Shades Drama Workshop at the College of New Rochelle. He is the founder and director of the Neil Harris Experimental Theater in Mount Vernon, NY. Neil Harris wrote scripts for the "Sanford and Son" TV series. He received grants from the Westchester Council of the Arts, 1972, and the American Film Institute, 1973.
