Biography
Playwright. Kenneth Bernard, a prolific playwright, was born in New York City, in 1930. He teaches at the Brooklyn Center of Long Island University. He has received Guggenheim, Rockefeller, and New York CAPS (Creative Artists Public Service) grants for his plays, and National Endowment for the Arts, New York CAPS, and New York Foundation for the Arts Grants for his fiction. He won the Arvon Poetry Prize for his poetry. Several of his plays have been published. His "Theatre of the ridiculous," was published recently by Johns Hopkins University Press, c1998. Bernard contributed plays to the Negro Ensemble Company.
