- Biography
- Playwright, actress, publisher, editor and teacher. Beth Turner was educated at Colby College, Maine, and the University of Paris, France, with a specialisation in French language and literature. She received her M.A. in human relations and community studies at New York University, 1966. She was instructor of sociology at the University of New Haven, 1971. She is the publisher and editor of Black Masks bimonthly periodical. Turner teaches the Black Women's Playwriting Workshop at the New Federal Theater in New York City. She is the recipient of the John Hay Whitney Opportunity Fellowship, 1965; her play "Sing on Ms. Griot" earned a New York State Council on the Arts Grant (1975) for development of quality plays for young audiences.
