Note
  1. Vol. 1-3, 1851, v. 4-7, 9, 11, 1852-56, apparently the first edition by Hudson; v. 8, 1858, v. 10, 1859, are reissues; v. 11, containing life, history of drama, and Poems.
  2. "In size of volume, in type, and style of execution" follows the Chiswick edition of 1826, reproducing even the woodcuts. But the text and notes (Singer's) have been revised, the long introductions are founded mainly on the editor's "Lectures of Shakspeare", published in 1848.
