- Cassette 1. Side A (30 min.). Begins with approximately 10 minutes of indecipherable conversation, greetings, music and dancing instruction. Mr. Hutch then discusses his background and family; first performing experiences; Max Wall and other eccentric performers of the 1930's; legmania; the different types of comedic dancing; and the lack of teachers to nurture future dancers in this area. Side B (30 min.). Mr. Hutch talks about the importance of character in eccentric dance; the connection between animation and eccentric dance; his work with his own dance troupe; Little Titch; his career after the early years; the army and afterwards; the Benny Hill Show; his feelings about recognition he has or has not received in different aspects of his career; working on the film Chaplin; his connection to Charlie Chaplin through Fred Kitchen; origins of eccentric dance, physical and visual comedy and minstrel shows; and Joseph Grimaldi.
