Horosko interviews John Taras, ballet master of the New York City Ballet; Taras speaks about the role of a ballet master, including the knowledge of choreography; the necessity of knowing all of the ballets in City Ballet's repertoire; lack of time for his own choreography; characteristics of a Balanchine dancer; views on classical dancers studying folk and modern dance [music].
Reiss interviews Eugenie Ouroussow. Ouroussow discusses the origins of the School of American Ballet; its relationship with the New York City Ballet and City Ballet's predecessors; the move from 59th Street to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; collaborating with the Juilliard School on student performances; George Balanchine's desire for his students to study music and otherwise benefit from the creative climate of Juilliard and Lincoln Center [music].
