Summary
Interview with choreographer Agnes de Mille, who discusses various topics, beginning with the low status of the dance at the Metropolitan Opera, her parents' opposition to her becoming a dancer, why she began to choreograph, and her early work Black ritual for Ballet Theatre. She describes her experiences in working on the musical Oklahoma!, particularly her interactions with composer Richard Rodgers. Three dancers then perform a satirical dance created by her for Conversations about the dance, a lecture-demonstration on the history of dance. She also assesses the present-day popularity and creativity of dance.
