Children at a ballet school in Berlin talk about their aspirations.
"O Fortuna." Bilanz 94/95 am Stadttheater: Summing up the dance season in the state theatres (ca. 11 min.) / overview of the events affecting both state-employed and freelance dance artists, including the presentation of the Deutscher Tanzpreis to Pina Bausch, the dismissal of Heidrun Schwaarz from the Aalto Theater in Essen, Susanne Linke's new affiliation with the state theater in Bremen, Hans Kresnik's provocative new work Ernst Jünger, the departure of Reinhild Hoffmann from Bochum and the disbanding of her company, and Birgit Scherzer's satirical treatment of Carmina burana. Dance excerpts include Schwaarz's Romeo and Juliet, Linke's Märkische Landschaft, Kresnik's Ernst Jünger, Hoffmann's Zeche zwei and Folias, and Scherzer's Carmina burana. Ulrich Roehm and Marc Jonkers present speeches at the Deutscher Tanzpreis presentation; interviews feature Heidrun Schwaarz, Walter Heun, Anna Pocher, Gerald Rissmann, Reinhild Hoffmann, Remo Rostagno, and Robert Allen.
Stuttgart: London. Drei Generationen britischer Choreographen in Deutschland: British contribution to German dance (ca. 11 min.) / a discussion of the present state of the Stuttgart Ballet is illustrated by an excerpt from Uwe Scholz's Sonate für Birgit und Vladimir, created for Birgit Keil and her partner Vladimir Klos upon her retirement from the stage. David Bintley's ballet Edward II for the Stuttgart Ballet, Richard Wherlock's Transit dances and Rébus for Theater Hagen, and Wayne McGregor's AnArkos for the Theater am Halleschen Ufer in Berlin are screened and discussed. Interviewees are Alexander Ursuliak, director of the John-Cranko-Schule in Stuttgart; Richard Wherlock; and Wayne McGregor.
Wer erbt von Wem? Kulturaustausch Ost/West und 100 Jahre Schwanensee: What do the East and the West have to offer? (ca. 12 min.) / discussion of recent cultural exchanges between Russia and Germany: Christine Brunel's stint as guest choreographer for Theatre Provincial Dancers of Ekaterinburg; Stephan Thoss's new version of Les noces, to music by Igor Stravinsky and Arvo Pärt, merging the dance styles of Gret Palucca and 1920s Russian ballet; Michail Gawrikow's teaching of St. Petersburg's classical tradition in Leipzig; performances by the visiting Russian State Ballet [also known as the Moscow Ballet], seen in excerpts from Agrippina Vaganova's Esmeralda pas de deux. The perennial appeal of Swan lake, considered the epitome of Russian ballet, is examined through two contrasting new stagings by Ray Barra in Munich and Bernd Schindowski in Gelsenkirchen. Interviewees include Christine Brunel, dancers Ravil Galimov and Natalia Chirokova, and Michail Gawrikow.
"Jeder Mensch ist ein Tänzer"--Rudolf von Laban. Tanzprojekte von behinderten und weniger behinderten Menschen: Danceability projects in Germany (ca. 9 min.) / discussion of dance performances by handicapped dancers and those whose bodies do not conform to traditional expectations. The picture of Snow White, by Danish choreographer Kirsten Dehlholm, is danced by actual dwarves, while the daily discrimination they encounter is described in interviews. Scenes from Joint Forces in Movement [Vereinte Kräfte in Bewegung], a workshop and performance festival in Hannover, include a contact improvisation workshop led by Alito Alessi and Emery Blackwell, who are also appear in interviews and an excerpt from The black and blue White House. Theater Tartaar, a company composed of Belgian handicapped women, presents Betty van der Schueren. Speakers also include Aat Hougée, workshop participant Andrea Hoffmann, and actor Jesper Hock.

Elliot Caplan aus New York: A dance film maker meets choreographers in the capital (ca. 17 min.) / screening of Elliot Caplan's film Close-up on Berlin, which includes interviews and/or dance excerpts by Alex B., Maurice Béjart (who rehearses and discusses Apropos de Schéhérazade), Jo Fabian, Robert Poole, Dieter Baumann and Jutta Hell with Tanztheater Rubato, Joseph Tmim and Toladá Dance Company, and Sasha Waltz.

Choreographen reagieren auf 100 Jahre Kino: Choreographic response to film (ca. 9 min.) / discussion of choreographers who find inspiration in film in various ways: its movement qualities, techniques, and personalities. Examples include Elepsie matale, in which Wanda Golonka and VA Wölfl placed projectors between the dancers; Urs Dietrich's Echo oder die Freundlichkeit des Hundes, inspired by cinematic slapstick; Pavel Mikulástík's La strada, a stage adaptation of Federico Fellini's film of the same title; Lothar Höfgen's Marlene oder The angel's blues, inspired by Marlene Dietrich; and Uwe Scholz's Amerika, which draws upon American film and television icons such as Mickey Mouse.

Dance examples include Merce Cunningham's Enter and CRWDSPCR, the latter partly created with the computer simulation program Life Forms; Nacho Duato's Coming together; Edouard Lock's 2, danced by La La La Human Steps; Sabine Wake's A clockwork orange 2004; Rui Horta's object constant; Stephen Galloway's Electro clips; and William Forsythe's Eidos: Telos.
