Rare Books copy contains 12 additional extra illustrations from: Twelve excellent and most diverting prints, taken from the celebrated poem of Hudibras, wrote by Mr. Samuel Butler, exposing the villany and hypocrisy of those times / invented and engraved on twelve copper-plates by William Hogarth ... [London] : Printed, and sold by Philip Overton ... and John Cooper ..., 1726. 12 prints : etching ; double-page (10) or larger (2). Binding: Red morocco, gilt, by J. Wright.
Copy in NGL contains ca. 425 additional extra illustrations, including ca. 390 ports., views, etc., some hand-col., from various sources; 15 engravings by Ridley after Hogarth, dated 1798, from the ed. printed by T. Bensley for Vernor and Hood, 1799; and 12 hand-col. aquatints by John Heaviside Clark from the ed. printed by W. Lewis for Thomas McLean, London 1819. Ms. list of the extra ill. in the hand of W. Turner ([8] p.) bound into v. 1; signed by Turner and dated July, 1823. Binding: 19th-century half red straight-grained morocco, gilt, and marbled paper boards. Bound in 6 v.; title pages bound in 2nd, 4th and 6th v.
