Used for the dance Suite for five (original title: Suite for five in space and time, shortened after first performance), choreography by Merce Cunningham. Originally composed of eight sections, two sections were omitted after the first performance. A solo for Carolyn Brown, originally performed in 1958 in the duet version of this dance (Suite for two), was afterwards added to Suite for five and performed as one of its seven sections thereafter. Dance first performed by Merce Cunningham and Company, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., May 18, 1956. First New York performance on Jan. 12, 1957, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn, N.Y. (Cf. Dictionary of the dance collection.)
