  • Written in 1831 Sartor Resartus was first published in Fraser's Magazine between November 1833 and August 1834 before being privately printed in London by James Fraser in 1834. Two American editions were published by James Munroe in 1836 and 1837 before the novel appeared in this first English trade edition of 1838 (cf. Tarr).
  • 500 copies printed; published in July 1838.
  • Price: 10s, 6d.
  • Signatures: [A]⁶ B-O¹².
  • Page [ii] and pages [311-12] contain publisher's advertisements.
  • On page [iv] printer's imprint reads: "London: Printed by William Clowes and Sons, Stamford-street"; on page 310 printer's imprint is shortened to "London: W. Clowes and Sons, Stamford-street."
