Summary
  • The William Pickens papers reflect Pickens' activities as Dean of Morgan College in Baltimore, his work with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and other aspects of his multi-faceted career with correspondence being the principal series.
  • Of interest is the series pertaining to Pickens' editorials, which includes essays, editorials, manuscripts, clippings and some letters relating to his editorials. Subjects include Marcus Garvey, the Ku Klux Klan, lynching, the Scottsboro Case, his disputes with Walter White (chief of the NAACP), and his 1952 Mediterranean trip. The last two series consist of Pickens' personal financial papers followed by Morgan College fund raising campaign material which is comprised of letters, programs and leaflets pertaining to a fundraising drive which occurred while Pickens served as Dean of Morgan College, 1918-1919.
