- The young Cocteau describes the third Paris season of the Dyagilev Ballets Russes. Included are impressions and descriptions of Nijinsky, Karsavina, Sophie Fedorova, Ida Rubinstein, Michel Fokine, Vera Fokina, Léon Bakst, Adolph Bolm, and the ballets Le spectre de la rose, Le dieu bleu, Les sylphides, Narcisse, Cléopâtre, Schéhérazade, and Petrouchka.
- This essay immediately precedes Cocteau's collaboration with composer Reynaldo Hahn and Léon Bakst on Le dieu bleu, the work for Nijinsky which began Cocteau's affiliation with the ballet.
- This essay was commissioned by Gabriel Astruc as a publicity text and printed in the magazine Comoedia illustré. Cf. *R-NKC (Cocteau) Steegmuller. Cocteau: a biography. 1970. p. 74-75.
