Summary

1. Madeleine Nichols, curator of the Dance Collection of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, discusses some concerns of building and maintaining a dance archive. In describing her work with the Dance Collection's film archive under the curatorship of Genevieve Oswald, she recalls the choreographic record films commissioned from Emile Ardolino and others. She notes the problems of storing and preserving videotapes and other library materials, and the constraints caused by budgetary cuts. She describes the Dance Collection's automated cataloguing system, pioneered by Oswald and implemented by Dorothy Lourdou.
