Summary
Unedited footage, recorded for the documentary Ruth Page: Once upon a dancer. For the completed documentary, see: *MGZIA 4-1249 cassette 129. Dance critic Clive Barnes comments upon the choreography and personal qualities of Ruth Page. He recognizes her significance as an innovator and pioneer, especially of Americana themes in ballet, and as a disseminator of dance in the U.S., which she popularized through her company's tours and through the mass appeal of the "operette dansé" (ballets based on operas). In assessing her place in American dance history, he compares the impact of George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein.
